This is a great recipe that you can make the night before.

1 thin loaf of French or Italian bread
8 large eggs
3/4 teaspoon salt
3 cups milk
4 teaspoons sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla (or almond) extract
2 tablespoons butter, cut into small slices

Butter a 9×13 inch deep baking pan. Cut the bread into slices 1-inch thick and arrange in a single layer in the pan. In a large bowl, combine the eggs, salt, milk, sugar and vanilla, beating with an electric mixer. Pour the mixture over the bread. Sprinkle with the cinnamon and allspice. Cover with foil and refrigerate 6 to 24 hours. Dot with butter and bake uncovered in a 350 degree oven for 45 to 50 minutes until the bread is lightly browned. Remove from the oven and let stand for 5 minutes. Serves 4.
